Discovered by Portuguese Admiral Tristan Da Cunha in 1506, the island of Tristan Da Cunha is located among a small cluster of volcanic islands in the South Pacific, midway between the Cape of Good Hope and South America. Annexed by Great Britain in 1816, Tristan Da Cunha became a dependency of St. Helena in 1938. In 2008 eight different legal tender coins were minted for Tristan Da Cunha.
