The Presidential Election of 1932 was held during the Great Depression. The Republicans chose the incumbent President Herbert Hoover as their candidate and the Democrats countered with New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt. With unemployment at over 20% in 1932, Hoover had virtually no chance of winning a second term. On November 8, 1932 Roosevelt won the election with a popular vote advantage of over 7 million; the largest percentage margin ever for a Democratic candidate! This landslide vote was also complimented by electoral vote advantage of 472-59. We have just purchased a small group of ¾ inch bronze stickpins for Hoover’s 1932 presidential bid. Given to contributors of Hoover’s campaign by the Morgan County, Colorado Republican Committee, the obverse of this great political piece features a Republican elephant with the caption of “Stick to Hoover” and the excuse caption of “None Could Have Done Better”.
