Henry A. Wallace (1888-1965) began his political career as F.D.R.’s Secretary of Agriculture, serving from 1933-1940. He received real name recognition when Roosevelt chose him to be his vice president in 1940. In 1944, when Roosevelt decided to run for an unprecedented fourth term, there was overwhelming opposition within the party to retain Wallace as Vice President, so Roosevelt reluctantly dropped him from the ticket. He was appointed as Secretary of Commerce as compensation, a job he held for one year until he was fired by President Truman. Considered a leftist Democrat, he bolted the party and ran as the Progressive presidential candidate in the election of 1948. We offer a propaganda leaflet promoting the Wallace-Taylor ticket.
