Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American pastor, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African- American civil rights movement.  Born Michael King, his father changed his name in honor of German reformer Martin Luther.  A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist in his early twenties, and on October 14, 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through non-violence.  On April 14, 1968 he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee by James Earl Ray.  Fifteen years later, in honor of King, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating a federal holiday in his name.  Observed for the first time on January 20, 1986, it is called Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and is observed on the third Monday of January every year.  In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., Budweiser issued this rectangular 1.75” x 2.75” button dated January 19, 1987.  It shows the profile of King within the Liberty Bell, and states “Let Freedom Ring-A New American Tradition”.  We offer this mint condition button for only...
