This medal was issued to commemorate the 2600th anniversary of Japanese Imperial Rule. Issued in 1940, it recognizes the founding of the Japanese Empire in 660 B.C. The obverse of this bronze medal features a sixteen-petaled Imperial chrysanthemum above the image of the sacred double bridges leading along the right bank of the river receding in the background to the entrance of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. On the reverse is a column of stylized Kansi characters, which translate “2600th Anniversary Commemorative Medal”.
