In July 1960 at the Democratic National Convention, John F. Kennedy was nominated on the first ballot as the party’s candidate for President with 806 votes to 409 for Lyndon Johnson. In a move that upset many in the party, Kennedy chose Johnson as his running mate. Election results in November showed this to be a very shrewd decision. Kennedy lacked support in the South, and especially in Texas. With Johnson on the ticket, he gained that support. From the 1960 Presidential campaign, we offer two different political buttons.
