This centry-old 500 Rubles banknote is the largest currency (in size) ever printed by the Imperial Russian Empire, measuring a massive 5’ x 10.75”. Dated 1912, it features Czar Peter I, better known as “Peter the Great” who ruled Russia from 1682 until his death in 1725. The obverse of this extremely ornate note depicts Peter the Great in battle uniform. It also portrays a seated allegoric woman symbolizing Mother Russia along with a large watermark of the Czar. The reverse is multi-colored and proudly displays the Russian Coat of Arms. Worth the equivalent of $250.00 in U.S. funds in 1912, this large denomination note would have purchased a house in Russia at the time of issue. This note was authorized by Russian Czar, Nicholas II, who was deposed in 1917 and then executed along with his entire family by the Bolsheviks.
