Tin Type Photographs

These antique photographs are over well 100 years old and are true conversation pieces! Before the wide use of photography on paper, photographs were processed on metal strips, called tin types. Although paper was also used at the time, it was actually quicker and easier to process pictures on metal (it was felt that metal had more durability and more longevity). The term “lights, camera, action” surely did not apply to early photographs. It was more like lights, camera and hold your pose. It’s no wonder that no one ever smiled in the photographs produced in the 1800’s. It took approximately 60 seconds to complete a photograph (it’s a lot easier to hold a stern pose than a smile for this length of time). Tin Type photographs were made from the 1840’s to about 1895. The photographs we offer here are some the most interesting we have ever seen. The variety of facial expressions and clothes offer us a look back to a very historical period of time. We have priced these photographs at antique gift shops and when you could find them they were almost always $50 or more.  We have just purchased a large selection of tin types and can offer them at more than 80% off regular prices.
