On April 13, 1976, the “new” $2 Federal Reserve note was released for circulation. It was different from past $2 notes in that it featured a scene of the founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence. Collectors across the country attached a postage stamp (13¢) to the note and brought the note and stamp to their local post offices to get first day of issue cancellation.
