Salmon P. Chase (1808-1873) was a well-known figure in 19th Century politics. He served as Governor of Ohio (1856-1860), as Secretary of the Treasury during Abraham Lincoln’s administration, and as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1864-1873). So respected, he was even featured on U.S. currency! In 1862 he was pictured on a $1.00 note, and in 1918, 1928 and 1934 on a $10,000 note.
